Wow that guy got hammered!

That's what happens when your entire gaming experiance started with consols* and you choose to attack an IP that has been around for 25 years. Lot of loyal fans build up in 25 years! Think anyone will remember GOW in 25 years? Sure THQ is trying to cash in on the success and interest that GOW created. That dosn't mean they are the same :o

hehe

* for all I know the guy started with an attari or commodor 64. As he said, that was an off the cuff review based on the fact that it was the same type of si-fi shooter. Means his reviews are pretty craptacular imo.

The article itself isn't even journalism, he said in the article and without doing any research he just looked at the game and spotted one similiarity then its "zomg c0pyc@t!"

As hilarious as is to see the people berated him he probably did this to increase site traffic, better not give him what he wants!

The games play NOTHING alike. You guys oughta play the demo on the 22nd or 23rd or whenever you'll have it if you don't already, and then play Gears of War, and then read that article again and laugh. Space Marine is a game unto itself. It doesn't play like Gears, or like Darksiders, or God of War, or CoD/MW/etc. It's pretty unique.

Well the game has been out for over a month now and I have to say how HORRIBLY wrong that author was. Space Marine, besides being a TPS, is almost the exact opposite of GoW.

Instead of hiding behind cover taking pot shots at the enemy, you charge forward into the mass of Orks while unloading your entire clip into them. Instead of Meleeing people ONLY for the novelty of it, you actually are required to melee certain enemies to actually kill them. Also, love hiding behind a wall and regenerating health? Well in Space Marine you actually have to FIGHT to gain more health and do executions, which unlike GoW, actually has a game play purpose.

Now, how about the story? Is there a super cheesy love subplot or some plot breaking inconsistencies? Nope. You are a Ultramarine whose job literally entails killing. That's it. Killing everyone, then finding where he needs to go with his merry band of followers to continue the Ork genocide. The story doesn't need to hide behind LAYERS of symbolism and is fairly straightforward as far as normal shoot'm up story lines go, but is almost DEAD on the type of mood and atmosphere that 40k brings with it.

Now, comparing how both games consist of heavily armored, super soldiers is one of the most oversimplified and uninformed statements made in that article as many posters have already mentioned on this forum and on his "website". He misused the point of comparing two things, which is to not only see how similar they are, but also recognize how different they are as well.

Also, not to mention that SM multiplayer with the addition of Exterminatus is actually worth playing after you beat the main campaign, with THOUSANDS of customizable options to make your perfect SM/CSM. Although being into TT, there still didn't seem like there was enough options for me
