Just watched the Ultramarines movie and thought it was fun. Graphics were nothing to write home about, but it was a simple, brutal, very 40kish story.

Great, was planning to see this. From the trailer I could tell the graphics would be meh, but if the story is descent I can get over the graphics.

It was an absolute failure in my eyes. That film had no redeeming feature and was a blatant rip off.

The movie was entertaining but they could of done a better job of storyline and graphics. It is a good primer for someone not familiar with the 40K universe. For us that have played the game and read the novels it is a story with a lot of holes in it.

I see you've already arrived Naso. I personally enjoyed it, it was the only real 40k movie we have, so i enjoyed what i could.

It was pretty meh tbh, the story didn't befit a film at all, it was more of a short story you'd find padding out a Codex. Still i think a big budget 40k film could be a success, sometimes i just wonder if the Universe requires too much prior knowledge to fully appreciate in a 2 hour bite.

It's all about the writing. You give someone like Ridley Scott a full stack of codices, 4 months to write, and the kind of budget that his name permits and you would have a blockbuster.

You'll gather more enjoyment from the books.

The Ultramarines in the movie were recruits, jabbing at each other about first blood, not trusting their comrades' judgement, making bad tactical choices, etc. These are supposed to be veterans hardened by an unfathomable number of battles and training, but they may have well sent some Imperial Guard out there to do the same job.

Aside from their experience, they were dropping like flies to superficial wounds. A single bullet wiping out a Marine? BS! They can take a bullet to the heart and live through it. Anything but a direct shot to the head should be laughed off as their power suit takes care of it for them. One died from a wound to the arm... Pitiful.

Then you have the ship they were on. A ship that big and they had what, fourteen on board? Where were the navigators? Servitors? A ship that size should have thousands, tens of thousands on-board. From what the film showed, they literally left a single servitor, maybe two to man the entire ship.

I would give the film a 2 out of 10. It's like taking Batman and making him the T-Rex in Jurassic Park. If you know what a T-Rex is, you'd think the film makers were daft. If not, it would still feel way out of place.
