Hi all, I had an idea about how they could make the Tyranids a playable race in 40K, I've ran it past a few RL mates they said it sounded interesting but wanted to share with everyone else.

I understand that this would involve a lot of effort of the design but bare with me as I think it would be extremely fun (and a new experience)

Assuming all other races work along the same mmo standard (Player character: levels up, learns new abilities, gets more powerful ie. AoC, Warhammer Online, WoW, EQ etc) allow Tyranid players to work in a new and different way:

(For this part, im going to start calling XP Biomass as it makes more sense :P - so Biomass = XP)

You start off as a gaunt of some kind, some basic attacks and a skill tree/specialization tree like in most mmos (probably split into ranged or melee depending on which type of gaunt you want to be!), and along the way you accumulate more biomass as usual.

When you get to certain levels, you unlock different husks, (Gaunt, Genestealer, Warrior, Carnifex (at high level ofc), Zoanthrope etc)

This doesn't mean you automatically change into the other husk (which has some associated abilities to them, or biomorphs) but gives you the option too if you want (and you can revert back if you wish - not during a mission/quest/whatever only when your in space with teh Hive Fleet.

For example your team of 5 say could all have enough points to play gaunts, warriors and genestealers, you might decide to try a pvp misison or land on a planet or whatever, one of you deploys as a very fast hormagaunt used for scouting, two players decided to branch into genestealers for high dps, one transforms into a warrior built for tanking and the other into another warrior built with a venom cannon or something.

There key could be adaptability - like (and i dont like using wow references but I am going too) a druid can be dps/heal/tank/off tank etc.

Each husk (this isnt the right word i know) could have a mini tech tree or something for each one and all scale with levels, so even at high end deploying as a Gaunt doesnt mean you just get insta killed as all marine players deploy as terminators or something! Could be very fast by the time your max level or even have the ability to summon squad mates or something to account for squishy size.

This I believe would be very interesting and not everyone would just turn into Hive Tyrants at high levels as you give each type different abilities. What do you all think? This was a rushed post and I apologise!


the TLDR version - As you level up, unlock different "types" you can spawn as, Warrior, Lictor etc each has own mini tree and a few different abilities
