I was thinking how kroot would work as a playable race.

If you know about the kroot lore mechanic skip this part, other wise read on.
The kroot eat who they kill. They do this because they steal the DNA and use it to improve themselves. for example if they eat orks they get bigger, stronger, and more brutal. If they eat dark eldar they get more cunning and cruel. They basically take on the aspects of what they kill and evolve this way. At the same time though they can also devolve. Many of the animals the Kroot use are suspected to actually be decedents of Kroot that when to far in eating non-intelligent animals and eventually became non-intelligent themselves.

So I was thinking that as a Kroot when ever you kill something you have the chance to eat it. This would then act as a buff to your stats depending on what it is you ate.

that would be interesting to say the least maybe progression in it is that your shaper selects a specific specimen for you to eat once its time to progress

They would also have a field day with the steak I just eat...along with PETA

as long as no one is saying any dirty words while consuming human flesh, its a-ok!

as for the kroot.. it would certainly be a cool mechanic if implemented well

What I had meant to say above, is the undead in WoW eat their kills, I don't remember if they get to eat players, I don't remember. What is their ESRB rating?

true.. i mean, its carnivores that look like dinosaurs.. of course they eat meat!

and yeah, you can cannibalize players in wow.. any corpse that didnt have loot.
