Well... I am hoping that each race is going to have a completely unique levelling system, economy... blah blah.

I had the idea that you could start your tutorial game as a ripper... to get basic movement functions and attacks down. Then you genetic material can be re-assimilated back into the fleet and you can choose either a termagaunt or hormagaunt to be reborn as. And so on and so on until you end up with a high-ish level creature... I obviously don't expect it to go as far as Carnafixs or Hive Tryants... jesus, that'd be ridiculously over powered...

... still don't think it'd work though. PvE enemies only I reckon.

still sounds like a cool idea...

This isn't a bad idea. I could definitely see this as interesting when coupled with a monster play/skaven mechanic so long as they remained neutral, possible on their own planet. I don't see any reason why you couldn't have the larger more epic units so long as you had to unlock their use. If they have player controllable tanks and dreads why not let the players have Carnifexs and Tyrants. Hell, they've said player controllable titans are in.

they could be a pure pvp race tho. with no hive mind they're just big raging logs.. you couldnt group as nid, you couldnt talk to anyone, you couldnt get healed or buffed beyond what you can give yourself.. but you could "level up" to a Carnifex and battle squads of SMs or IGs or whatever in pvp land.. ort of like a PC-PvP Boss encouter ^^
and if you run into one as a solo pvper.. well, run.

While it would be cool to see them as a playable race, I see them only being used as PvE material, which is fine by me. They will make for some awesome raids.

Alright I'm very prepared to get flamed cause this is over the top but bear with me:

Chaos Sorcerers have developed a ritual that by capturing the Hive Queen the Daemon Lord assumes control of the Hive Mind. Using pherimones and psychic control the Tyranids are thus enslaved by Chaos. Kinda cheesy I know.. and it would seem strange having bugs in your group but I think the concept is slightly workable.

Also, In the Blood Angels books there's a situation where Fabius Bile manipulates Tyranid pherimones and psychic signals to prevent them from attacking his base.

Your all aware that they have already stated 'nids wont be playable and will be the main NPC protagonists used throught the game right? You know that dont ya's? ;)

Having said that I think even from a lore point of view it wouldnt be workable. Not anymore. Things like the Chaos Genestealer cults of yore have been "disowned" from the current canon AFAIK and I cant see GW sanctioning playable 'nids. :(

Still if it was a shooter (thinking AvP here) style game playable nids wuld be awesome.
