Orks get tossed into battles all the time, manipulated into throwing themselves at the enemy of some other race. Which is also their enemy of course, because, Orks, ya know?

Well, while writing that lame population balance thread in general, an amusing thought came to mind. Note: I don't ever expect this to be implemented, ever. It's just too fun to be put into a boring grindfest MMO.

Three factions:

Eldar/Orks
IoM
Chaos/Orks

We know IoM is going to be the largest, so throwing the Orks on their side would probably just kill the game. But if we had Orks switch sides based on the largest of both Eldar and Chaos factions, it would leave open the possibility to have some fascinating situations.

The Orks wouldn't just switch on next server restart or anything. They'd switch the moment the scales tipped, within reason to prevent constant switching. Again, it'll never be implemented, but I'd love to be an Ork player in such enormous battle and suddenly have every name in the immediate vicinity turn red. SURPRISE!

If two factions:
IoM/Eldar/Tau
Chaos/Deldar/Orks

If three factions:
IoM
Eldar/Tau
Chaos/Deldar/Orks

If four factions:
IoM
Eldar/Tau
Chaos/Deldar
Orks

According to lore, there are enough Orks that should the race ever co-operate as one entity, that no force in the galaxy could stop that Great WAAAGH!

This idea isn't completely without merit, in fact I quite like it. The concept could most certainly work on a micro scale (zone to zone) easier than a macro scale (faction to faction). There's always been some races in the 40k lore that swung both ways (harhar) as the mood struck them, Orks being the most notable. This could possibly mesh quite well with my suggestions on alliances being based primarily on the racial interests within worlds/zones. For example, on an "Ork" world within the Sargos sector, Ork players might not automatically be oriented with Chaos and could potentially be at odds with Chaos unless a certain population density of IoM and Eldar was present on said world. If there were a great many Ork players on that world they might just be a solo faction able to make war on anyone they chose.

<3

That's pretty brilliant, and would make the whole thing just an interesting mechanic rather than an attempt to have actual balance. One of the reasons I didn't like my own idea is because of the havoc it would cause in places where it wasn't needed, but your change solves that. *thumbs up*

Its fair enough you say that, but then the problem scenario 101 arises:

I play a Chaos Space Marine

My friend plays an Ork.

We want to play together.

Oh shi-.... either Lore got broken and we are playing together or we're plain out of luck!

Thats exactly why multi faction is better :(.

I'm fine with punishing people for playing the most populated race. >:)
