What's the price of some decent crap on that laptop? It definitely isn't a thousand dollars if you add the good stuff. And that six hour battery life is without all those nifty parts, so you'll be looking at two hours max most likely.
If I were to go snag a new gaming computer, I'd build a relatively cheap gaming desktop, and buy a laptop separate. If you have a desktop you can scalp parts from, go that route.
Get a video card (or two) that is a generation or two behind current. You'll still be able to play the latest and greatest, without the insane cost. Make sure you get an SSD and read up on best practices. Read up on the best processors to find out which are "budget" processes and which are good for gaming.
You can build a gaming machine for less than a thousand dollars, and buy a 14" laptop for ~700$. This will no doubt be cheaper than a good Alienware, you'll get two computers, you'll be able to turn off the gaming machine to conserve electricity, you'll get a good 6-10 hours on the laptop battery, the laptop won't be as heavy, you'll be able to upgrade your gaming computer in the future without any hassle (this is important), etc.
This is assuming you care about money. I'm not living in the poor house or anything, but that's
because I'm a penny pinching bastard.
