These are my first models that I have owned. I have painted before (not that much). Tell me what you think. I may add more detail, such as gems and actual eye paint as well as runes, later.

You need to go to the craft store and pick up a small block of regular modeling clay or Sculpey and some wine corks. You take a small ball of clay and stick your figures to a wine cork and it will give you something easier to hold on to for fine detail work and for modelling and painting your bases. Excellent first efforts though, feel free to hit me with any questions, I've been painting and sculpting miniatures for over 2 decades now. One of these days I'll dig some units out of my storage unit and post some pix.

ImageAlso, these ^, you can find them at auto parts stores or hardware stores. They make one that fits the slotta bases perfectly and will hold tight to even the heaviest minis. They work best if you take your needle nose pliers and bend the jaws slightly so they meet evenly and don't bypass.

Thanks for the tips. I did have to anchor my whole body to the chair firmly to not smudge on those wings. I think I can get a solder station cheap and it might work better, even for gluing. On that note, those hawks were pewter and were glued together with super 'gel' glue. It worked fine, but I still wish it were stronger. Any good suggestions other than greenstuff (its kinda expensive)?

I avoid gel super glues in favor of regular 'thin' super glues. I think the gels sometimes fill crevices that you don't want filling. As for putting the metal minis together, fine copper wire and a pin vice (mini hand drill). Just get the finest drill bits you can find and match a copper wire in diameter and you're good to go. A little extra pinning never hurts anything. I would never solder, not even for BIG metal models, so much easier for big models to use a tiny bit of green stuff epoxy or even liquid epoxy. I've epoxied many models together, including HUGE ones, without pinning and they never come apart.

Waiting on the resin version myself. The stores stopped carrying pewter eldar, so I am hoping my Swooping Hawks will be nice light resin!
