Dinner Date? Blasphemy!!!

Your girlfriend can paint your minis wearing leather straps while you play some Space Marine.

J/K have her help you paint it's a good social time with your other half.

About deployment...no battle plan survives beyond turn one. With the guard your best to position your units so that you have overlapping command bubbles then after that pray to the god emperor you brought enough flash lights to take down your enemy.

Agree on the IG deployment. Ensure that all your heavy weapons can support each other. You want multiple guns on the HQs and Elites that are trying to close distance to melee.

Another thing that I think you should be aware of is if there are any "house" rules that they play by. I am by no means saying that every gaming club is trying to cheat, but it helps if you know how they play. I once went to a club where they played the tank shock rule as an instant kill if they hit your units immediately.

Knowing how a certain group of people play will enhance your "fun" level as well as help you develop stratigies to crush your opponents in the name of the EMPEROR!!

This! Many clubs have house rules, some of the better clubs will print up handouts for newbs detailing the house rules. Some clubs house rules flux and change based on the whims of the Alphas in the group. These clubs tend to be the least fun as the Alphas HATE to lose and will lawyer up when things go bad. If you find a group that you enjoy playing with, feel free to run some straight games once you've been accepted into the pack, other newbs will thank you for it. If you have a Games Workshop store in your community, these are always the best place to find a straight game.

So I got my rulebook, IG codex, and a box of cadian troops. I'm now in the process of painting them. I'm going for a desert look, hopefully it will come out the way I want it to, but so far it seems okay.

Sort of offtopic, but those Mordian Iron Guardsmen have some pretty awesome lore, and their uniforms are badass. I might collect some of them down the road. The Tallarn Desert Raiders are really cool as well, but I couldn't find any in the stores that I've been to so I may need to get them online. The Raiders were my first choice, but I've fallen back to Cadian for now.

Mordians and Tallarns (excluding the forge world Tallarns) are out of production and have been since around the early 2000's AFAIK, for awhile you could get them through mail order (in the UK & Europe only AFAIK) but I havent noticed them for sale for over a year.

As I said in another thread my Army is the Limited edition Praetorian Guard but they look identical to the Mordians except from the pith/boear war style helmet, so I often bought Mordian parts up until about 5 years ago when they became expensive and special order only.

Your best bet if you want to collect those armies is to try ebay. You can usually find them for sale but be prepared to be paying for lead and white tin minis and the fact that they are slightly smaller than the current 28mm standard, think they were 25 or 26 but dont quote me.

You can still get some nice updated 28mm Tallarn Desert Raider stuff here: http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhammer-4 ... er_reset=1

Grab a Daemon Prince for your HQ. The Nurgle DP model is properly disgusting. Give him Mark of Nurgle, Wings and Warptime. Pretty standard. You might want to consider swapping Warptime for Nurgle's Rot now that the latest FAQ nerfed it.

Nurgle armies are really troops heavy. PM are expensive but damn tough to kill. They run best in squads of 6-7 led by a Champion w/ Powerfist (pretty low Initiative as is) and equipped with either 2 meltas, 2 flamers or 2 plasma guns (viable because of Feel No Pain). Put each squad in a Rhino.

Even though it isn't fluff-friendly, I'd add some Obliterators for heavy support. They are awesome.

That should be a good start to a Death Guard inspired army. Plus, modelling and modding Plague Marines is a blast.
