A few months ago I read the "Game Info" section of the official website, and it said something like, "side with the forces of chaos, or the forces of order." It was very eloquent, unlike my paraphrasing there.

Now it's gone.

Have they reconsidered the rumored two-faction system? Golly gosh, wouldn't that be neat.

Or my flash could be going wonky. Confirm for me, wouldja?

Found it on Wikipedia:

Quote:
On the very edge of the galaxy lies the Sargos Sector. For centuries it was rendered uninhabitable and isolated by volatile Warp Storms. Even now, deep within the sector the very fabric of reality is unraveling. Only the ancient Sentinel Devices hold the Warp at bay.

But the ravages of time and meddling of humanity have weakened the Sentinel Devices-and now, the battle for these lost worlds is at hand. Drawn to the conflict, the great races of the galaxy descend upon the Sargos Sector, seeking to preserve reality-or to tear it asunder.

Side with the forces of Order, or the vile hosts of Destruction, in a war that will unlock ancient secrets, reveal dark purposes, and determine the fate of the Sargos Sector. For in this dark millennium, there is no peace amongst the stars, only war.

Your flash ain't wonky, cause I'm getting this in game info:

Quote:
A new era of online gaming begins with the anticipated release of Warhammer® 40,000®: Dark Millennium Online™. Set in a dark and brutally violent universe, Dark Millennium Online seamlessly blends the scale and strategy of MMORPGs, with the fast-paced combat of an action game to provide an all-new level of intensity and excitement.

However I do hope they consider a new faction system.

Vigil got a lot of interweb hate for the 2 faction blurb on their website. I hope that they are reconsidering the faction system in the game and at least talking with Games Workshop about changing things up. While GW's huge campaigns for tabletop matches have tended toward Order vs. Chaos, they have to have some idea about how poorly received these 2 faction systems are among MMO fans, specifically, pvp'ers. It's my hope that instead of black and white, GW and Vigil will embrace a shades of grey approach, based on specific zones as to what racial factions can wage war or ally with one another.

I was thinking of something similar to a shades of grey approach.

Let's say we have an Ork guild full of raging fanatical dirty-mouthed PvPing reprobates.

A herd of Chaos come to our leader and tell us some shinies are over yonder, along with a damn good fight. Now, this would be a tentative alliance. Tab targeting (assuming it exists), area of effect, etc wouldn't effect Chaos, but if we were to target one we could blow him up on a whim. So Chaos and our guild of frothing crazies team up and snag the shinies and kill the humies, etc.

And then we backstab Chaos and add their heads to our pointy sticks.

All factions would be in the same boat: People aren't hostile to begin with as long as they've teamed up in the fluff. The Imperium of Man could even see Space Marines killing Guard, etc. If they guilded up (perhaps), they'd be permanently allied.

When people see a given faction playing the largest role in a battle, they'll naturally team up against that faction until it's even enough. With two factions total, there is no way to do this and it becomes a huge balance issue.

I feel like two factions would just be an incredible disappointment, because it is extremely clear that they are going against the fluff to make a decision they hope will cater to WoW players, but that's a huge glaring error as I see it. Not only is a two-faction system worse for PvP, it just makes the game that much closer to the "generic MMO" people want them to move away from.

Wouldn't read too much into it, but it definitely gives me hope. The idea of this game following suit with all those other games and shoe-horning the races into two separate sides is a bit stupid. Orks in particular allying with World Eaters is retarded.

Hehe, unless they did something completely off-the-wall like making the playable ork class be the throwback Khorne Storm Boys. ;)

The Wehrmacht-esque storm boyz were off-the-wall enough, I think.
