This does run the risk of a premature release, Mythic did something similar when it released an 80% complete game back in 2007. Tier 4 incomplete, beta quality animations and with four missing classes. With an approximate annual upkeep cost of $1.5 million (excluding launch fees) anything less than their best is dangerous.
If we assume that March 2013 is the release date, 14 months from now, Vigil has been very quiet about the project; in fact, I can't think of a MMO that didn't have a full-function website 18 months prior to its release. So in my opinion a March 2013 release is unlikely, I would expect something much later.
THQ's fourth quarter results are due in March so I hope that will offer at least some catharsis.
I would agree that it is weird, that they still don't have working website, but i would also say that they are perhaps playing it safe.
This year (2011-2012) two big MMO franchizes came out or are about to came out, SWTOR and GW2, so i think they wanted to see what will those two bring on table.
Considering new game mechanics, new gameplay styles, perhaps something new to MMO genre, and at the same time, they didn't want to show what they have, so that the others can't borrow they ideas and use them(since both of those are launched before DMO).
So now that they saw what SWTOR brought to table, they will soon see what GW2 brings (since beta events are about to start soon), and then they will roll the ball.
So i believe fully working DMO website perhaps even with forums will come in next 2-3 months together with new trailers, because E3 is like 5 months away, and they promised fully working demo at this years E3. So they need to start building hype atleast month or two before E3.
and lets not forget that Darksiders 2 comes around easter, so they have to market that first, and then they can put full attention and the whole Vigil team into DMO!
