THQ needs partner to bring Warhammer MMO to market

THQ is currently looking for a partner to bring its MMO Warhammer 40,000: Dark Millennium to market.

In a conference call to investors following the release of the company's third quarter results, CEO Brian Farrell confirmed that the high costs of development are putting a burden on the project.

"While the game in development promises to be a high-quality consumer offering, because of the large financial commitment and associated risks, we are being realistic about our resources and we are actively seeking a partner for this compelling MMO," he said.

The game is slated for a financial year 2014 release and was first announced in 2007. Last month it was suggested that the project was up for sale as the publisher struggles to keep itself afloat following years of cuts.

THQ revealed yesterday that losses for the third quarter had grown to $56 million.

So in light of this new information, what companies would you, my fellow fan forum junkies, put on the top of your list to help bring DMO to market and why?

I'll open with Trion, because they stepped into the MMOsphere with a very successful freshmen effort in Rifts and I like underdogs, lol.

Bethesda

Firstly Skyrim has proven to be a runaway success, and a quite recent one at that, so they won't be deeply committed to making a new game just yet and will be both flushed with success and cash.

Secondly they are a well respected programming house with a solid understanding of just what makes a game great and some interesting ideas as regards making a 'living' environment that could be well adapted to the MMO genre, not to mention having an excellent programming team.

Finally and maybe most importantly they are likely considering the possibility of making an Elder scrolls MMO of their own, so helping out in a MMO set in a very popular IP that is both unlikely to lose them money, is completely different in genre from their classical fantasy setting, and will allow them an opportunity to gain some experience in the whole design, launch and maintenance phases of an MMO, can only be a good thing.

Nope, Interplay is!!!
They made settlement 3 weeks ago, Interplay still has rights for MMO, and Bethesda has for "normal" games!

Actually I think it's the other way round,
http://www.destructoid.com/interplay-s- ... 9333.phtml
Interplay had the rights to the MMO and the Fallout IP but lost them to Bethesda. Interplay can still market the Fallout, Fallout tactics and Fallout 2 for a couple of years though.

From 3 weeks ago Bethesda can make a Fallout MMO or an Elderscrolls MMO, but it's unlikely that they will have got far in developing either so you shouldn't expect to see a Bethesda MMO for a long while yet, which is why I think this could be the perfect opportunity for them.
