I would personally have some small reservations about any company stepping in to help out. Generally, when people step in to lend money to a project they tend to feel their opinions are a necessary byproduct of that monetary investment, which is fair as it's their money.
Any company that has had a major success, EA, Bethesda, Valve, Blizzard, <insert name of your favorite game company that could come to the rescue>, would be very tempted, I feel, to offhandedly try to offer help where it potentially is not needed.
What needs to happen is a fan based fundraiser; similar to the article posted above. I love 40k and even enjoy the bad games as I love the immersion I can create for myself that the game may not provide fully. This is the first MMO where the prospect of doing RP is actually something I want to do.
I would happily give money to this cause as I know others would. There is nothing stopping Vigil/THQ from coming up with some system for rewarding people that donate; something akin to a pre-order bonus. Just an idea; donate $X and receive item-X at launch, or access to special shop with X-items. Something like this would not only reward people that want this game no matter what, but it might even elicit interest from people on the fence to give a small donation of $5.
What we as fans need to do is petition THQ to set up a donation plan for DMO. We need to show them that there are people willing to help, even if all it does is get my name in a book under "donation contribution." If THQ did this not only would it gain the game buzz because of the donations but this could attract a publishing partner more easily as it could more clearly see a fan base that would make the game successful.
THQ is in dire straights and so is the game. If we want to see this game happen we need to push for it from the masses and not let the industry dictate whether this game comes out. It is on us the fans. Plus, it would be wonderful if we had more information on the game...
