That would be cool, but then it's only really the Tyranids you could go with as a non-humanoid race, and they don't exactly lend themselves to alliances (eg. on the side of Destruction), individuals (PCs) going off and doing stuff alone, or the NPC questgiver format.

It really is a shame though, I think a playable Tyranid faction opposed to both Order and Destruction would be awesome :twisted:

Doubt it. To be honest I don't see them fitting the MMO player's typical day. I mean it would be a little awkward to see a tyranid browsing the auction house or sorting it's bank slots.

But remember LOTRO, they had that monster play thing, that was pretty interesting...

Monster play was an interesting feature, but with one fatal flaw, it was the only source of pvp in Lotro. The skaven mechanic developed for WAR was similar, but it was too restrictive and failed because these troops then sided with one faction or the other. To really make this kind of mechanic shine, they need to COMBINE both ideas. For example, lets say there is one planet in the Sargos Sector that's being overrun by Tyranids. In that one zone, players can choose to take up the mantle of a 'nid, level it, evolve/mutate it, and gradually gain in power and ability. They would be the adversaries of EVERY other non-'nid player in that zone. It would make for an awesome zone, with all the available play options potentially there (pve/pvp) in all scales (solo/group/raid).

I doubt they'd do that but still something to consider. I have a feeling the tyranids will be an NPC faction, like WoW's scourge, or Warhammer Online's Land of the Dead factions. Still traditional factions but not playable.

But who knows. With so little info we don't even know if Orks or Eldar will be playable. Hell, even the Imperial Guard.

One thing I really REALLY wish is for several factions, as in more than two.

Mal I love that Idea, you can take even further and Let players be event Bosses(Hive Tyrant). I would Like to see people complain about Bosses being easy when it's a palyer :lol:

but really the Nids kinda fall in the same Whole as Necrons, would Make a great LOTR monster Toon, but as Player race it would be a little too restrictive.

Necrons would be excellent candidates for this mechanic as well. They could even have a 'leader board' of sorts to allow the best 10 'nid or necron players, based on player kills, every week to unlock the uber classes.
